The network file system (NFS) is a standard and widely used protocol for sharing storage across a network of computers. For example, NFS is often used to mount the same users' home directory on multiple computers so that irrespective of where the user logs in they have access to the same data. It is also useful when sharing general storage (e.g., a hard of photos) across multiple computers.
