SVG Embedded Images

An svg file may include links to other image files that are to be include in the graphic. When sharing the graphic these external image files need to also be present. For some applications it is better to embed the image within the svg file. To do so, load the graphic into inkscape, under Extensions$\rightarrow$Images choose Embed Images.... Then save the svg file. The image will now be embedded into the svg file.

The inverse of this process is also supported in inkscape with the Extract Image... option.

Note that the svg file is a text based file format and so can be loaded into a text editor where it is possible to view the contents, and thus to determine the links to image files.
