The xscreensaver can be invoked from the command line using:
$ xscreensaver-command -lock |
Prior to version 13.10 of Lubuntu a keyboard shortcut was defined for the OpenBox window manager to map Ctrl-Alt-l to use xscreensaver. This is defined in the file /.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml:

Any change takes effect on the next login or after we run:
$ openbox --reconfigure |
