A Platform for Data Mining

A completely free and open source data mining platform can be setup using the Ubuntu operating system and the R statistical software. In this section we will step through the process, assuming you have a computer available, connected to the Internet, and are happy to turn it into a data mining platform (possibly removing any other pre-installed operating systems, or at least dual booting with them, or else creating a virtual machine).
